Our Foreign Matter Testing Process
At Novacann Labs, we follow a meticulous Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) to inspect samples for foreign matter. Our process includes:
- Sample Verification: Plant samples are verified for trichome structure and maturity. Oil samples are assessed for color, translucency, and viscosity. Edible samples are inspected for color and integrity. All samples are screened for microbial and fungal growth.
- Visual Inspection: Samples are weighed on a tray and visually inspected under a dissection microscope. Some samples can be inspected without removal from their packaging.
- Contaminant Identification: Identifying contaminants such as human hairs, animal feces, insects or insect parts, and visible species of fungi.
- Quality Features Verification: Verifying visual features that indicate product quality, such as trichome presence and maturity in flowers.
- Pass/Fail Criteria: Samples must have less than the established limit for mold, foreign matter, or feces. Samples with more than 5% of their weight in mold or foreign matter, or any presence of feces, are considered to FAIL.
